How to Maintain Your Clippers for Peak Performance

Professional clippers are an investment, and like any tool, they require proper care. Even the highest-end BaBylissPRO, Wahl, or Gamma+ machine will underperform without consistent maintenance. The good news? Clipper care is simple—it just requires consistency.

Cleaning is the first priority. Hair buildup in the blade area causes drag, slows the motor, and dulls performance. Barbers should brush out hair between every client and use compressed air for deeper cleaning.

Disinfecting is non-negotiable. Spray disinfectants keep blades hygienic, reduce irritation, and prevent bacterial spread. It also protects the blade surface from corrosion, especially when using products containing alcohol.

Oiling is the most essential step. Clipper blades must be lubricated daily—ideally after every few clients. Oil reduces friction, prevents heat buildup, and prolongs blade sharpness. A dry blade wears out quickly, causing pulling and inconsistent cutting.

Alignment and zero-gapping must be checked regularly. Blades shift over time, especially in high-vibration tools. Proper alignment ensures smooth, safe cutting, while misalignment can cause irritation or cuts.

Battery care is also important. Lithium-ion batteries should not be fully drained often. Instead, keep them charged between 20% and 80% when possible. Avoid overcharging overnight to extend battery lifespan.

Finally, deep cleaning sessions should be done weekly—removing blades, sanitizing internals, and ensuring all screws are tightened.

A well-maintained clipper not only performs better but also lasts years longer. Proper care ensures consistent results and protects your financial investment
